A MOON'S GRIEVANCE:
i see the moon
as a raw scream
cool
blue
and delirious
for eternity
its bitterness stares
when storms heave
drunk
whispering strength
crushing visions
of sweet
purple
peaches
frantic in the mist
beneath a morning sun
--An offing from my "Magnetic Poetry" collection.
**AUTHOR'S NOTE: A variety of Magnetic Poetry kits can be found online at www.magneticpoetry.com. It's basically a collection of words you put on your fridge or any metal/magnetic surface to which you can piece words together to create poems or just simple phrases.
I'm drawn to Magnetic Poetry because it's a challenging and creative way to create something originally beautiful out of a small group of selective words. It forces you to look at words differently and to see how they can be paired with terms and themes they don't usually belong with. Sometimes the word you want to use is not available, so you have to find another word to take its place. If you can accomplish this, your mind will open up to the eternally endless combinations of words, which to me is exhilarating.
I love words.
I love writing words.
Magnetic Poetry is a great way to stimulate my creative mind on a daily basis. There are times when I've found myself standing in front of the fridge for hours, completely in flow and focused, thinking deeply about the few short phrases I've managed to piece together in front of me. It's wonderful, and so relaxing.
Many people think they're not talented enough to create something original, but what's great about this type of brain-stimulation is that anyone who can think can create. Ultimately, the beautiful part comes in with the guaranteed realization that if you can see words differently, and how they're used to describe what's unseen inside us, what inevitably follows is the ability and willingness to see our beautiful world and ourselves in deeper, more artistic ways.
